Record-Setting Sale Highlights Successful 2026 All Canada Sheep Classic in Pictou, Nova Scotia

Pictou, Nova Scotia – The annual event brought together breeders, exhibitors, buyers and industry supporters to celebrate the quality, diversity and progress of the Canadian sheep industry.

The breeding sheep show, held on July 10, featured outstanding animals from across Canada and was expertly judged by Johanne Cameron of St-Hyacinthe, Quebec. The competition concluded with the prestigious Supreme Championship classes, where the very best animals of the show were selected.

The Supreme Champion Ewe was Brien G&L 24N, a Dorset yearling ewe consigned by Brien Sheep of Ridgetown, Ontario. The Supreme Champion Ram was Mastine Rip 43N, a Suffolk yearling ram consigned by Elmshade Suffolks of Drummondville, Quebec. The Supreme Flock honours were also awarded to Elmshade Suffolks, recognizing the strength and consistency of their Suffolk breeding program.

The excitement continued on July 11^th with the All Canada Sheep Classic Sale, where 185 of the 188 sheep were successfully marketed through the live and online auction. Buyers showed exceptional confidence in Canadian genetics, resulting in record-setting prices.

A total of 108 ewes sold for a record average price of $1,205, while 77 rams averaged $1,763.

Congratulations to Elmshade Suffolks, whose consignment produced both the high-selling ewe and high-selling ram of the sale. The top-selling ewe, Mastine Esmee 3P, was purchased by ABL Farm of Danville, Quebec. The top-selling ram, Mastine Razor 4P, was purchased by Dylan Cannan of Innisfree, Alberta.

Canadian genetics continued to demonstrate their national and international appeal, with sheep purchased by buyers in eight Canadian provinces as well as the United States.

Friday evening’s Lamb and Lobster Banquet also celebrated genetic excellence through the 9th annual GenOvis Awards, recognizing outstanding performance-tested animals.
