2025 All Canada Sheep Classic Celebrates Top Genetics and Industry Leaders

The 2025 All Canada Sheep Classic, held July 10-12 at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba, brought together breeders and industry stakeholders from across the country for Canada’s premier showcase of the top sheep genetics.

Brandon, MB – The show on July 11th featured strong competition across 16 breeds, culminating in the crowning of the Supreme Champions. The Supreme Champion Ewe title was awarded to an Ile de France, Cool Ally 35M, consigned by Cool Ally Livestock of Timkins, Saskatchewan. The Supreme Champion Ram was a Charollais, Sandy Hill Missile 83M, consigned by Sandy Hill Charollais of Red Deer County, Alberta. Supreme Champion Flock honours went to Texels consigned by Brien Sheep of Ridgetown, Ontario.

Friday evening concluded with the exhibitor banquet, where Elizabeth (Betty) Wallace, Gerald Knight, and Linda Westman were inducted into the Canadian Sheep Breeders’ Association Hall of Fame. The banquet also featured the 8th annual GenOvis Awards, recognizing outstanding genetic performance across breeds. Ferme Ovimax of St-Philippe de Néri, QC took home both top ewe (Ovimax Mila RR 36492M) and ram (Ferme Ovimax RR 36358M) awards in the prolific breed category. Brien Sheep of Ridgetown, ON earned both top ewe (Brien G&L 64M) and ram (Brien G&L 46M) awards for maternal breeds, while Stone Hill Sheep of Chatsworth, ON claimed top ewe (Stonehill 6N) and ram (Stonehill 92M) awards for terminal breeds.

Saturday’s sale saw strong prices, with the average prices seeing $1,201 for ewe and $1,368 for rams. The high-selling ewe was a North Country Cheviot, Coneygeers Gema WDT 6N, consigned by Congeers, Deborah Wytink of Nanaimo, BC, and purchased for $2,600 by Roger Chartrand of Quebec. The top-selling ram was a Suffolk, TNSC 5196N, consigned by The Northern Sheep Company of Lemberg, SK, and purchased for $7,500 by Justin Elder of Westmoreland, Kansas, USA. This sale is expected to further enhance genetics exchange between Canadian and American flocks.
